Safe Moor'd in Greenwich Tier : A Study of the Skeletons of Royal Navy Sailors and Marines Excavated at the Royal Hospital Greenwich

Description

The Old Burial Ground of the Royal Hospital Greenwich (1749-1857) provided the resting place for a very Motley crew - the battered and worn out veterans of the Royal Navy of the Georgian period. Recent excavations in the cemetary by Oxford Archaeology revealed the coffined burials of over a hundred Greenwich Pensioners (the equivalent of the Chelsea Pensioners), who had ended their long and colourful lives at the Hospital. These were sailors and mariners that sailed and fought in Britain's numerous wars of the 18th century, many seeing action at such famous engagements as the Glorious First of June, Copenhagen, the Nile, and Trafalgar. The hazards and physical demands of their lives are clearly reflected in their skeletons, with fractures, infections, amputations, joint disease and scurvy being common. Osteological findings are interpreted in the light of rich documentary sources on the social history of the lowerdeck of Nelson's Navy, and form an invaluable alternative data set in reconstructing the extraordinary lives of these 'picked and brine pickled survivors'.

This new edition of An Aid to the MRCP Paces Volume 2: Stations 2 and 4 has been fully revised and updated, and reflects feedback from PACES candidates as to which cases frequently appear in each station. The cases and scenarios have been written in accordance with the Safe Moor'd in Greenwich Tier : A Study of the Skeletons of Royal Navy Sailors and Marines Excavated at the Royal Hospital Greenwich free pdf latest examining and marking schemes used for the exam providing an invaluable training and revision aid for all MRCP PACES candidates. Flowers have been used for centuries to decorate celebratory cakes. This book starts by describing the different materials used in flower art: essentially for the purposes of this book, gum paste and fondant. Next, there are core techniques: learn these and you'll be able to make any flowers; the main section is the "sugar flower directory", which shows how-tos for 30 different sugar flowers, many so lifelike you want to inhale their scent, and including some extraordinary fantasy creations. The different examples are flagged by skill level, and are appropriate for a range of themes and occasion cakes (Christmas, weddings, christenings) or simply to give as gifts (wedding favors, Mother's Day, Valentine's, indeed any occasion when you might be inclined to give flowers, give a sugar flower crafted with care and made with love.)
